[lectrotext] I was looking around for the latest on title attributes and anchor tags. Last thing I've seen is from 2014. Is it still pretty much useless for screen readers?
[michiel] Steve on the matter: If you want to hide content from mobile and tablet users as well as assistive tech users and keyboard only users, use the title attribute.
IMO title gets worse press than it deserves.... it is certainly not the best solution in all cases and is very overused but sometimes it is the right thing
in order to get an accessible description on something?
the only alternative is aria-describedby.... if a developer doesn't require a description to be visible to everyone i'd rather they use title than a hidden aria-describedby just due to less code
[cordelia] Alas, you’ll never get away with it. Last I checked, these Slack archives are public, so people can easily Google and see through your ruse.
[michiel] We'll just have to make James say it for real then.
[michiel] Say jnurthen, what was that thing about title attributes you didnt' say?
