  3. [caesar] Sorry for the rookie question
  4. [jv] No it’s when CSS doesn’t load
  5. [jv] No question is rookie or stupid question. feel free to ask

    [michiel] If set up rules so no mail comes in your actual mailbox, is that cheating to achieve mailbox0?
  13. [dean] I don’t think so. I think it would be cheating if you deleted your mail account and the sender received a bounced reply.
  14. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 13:13
    [michiel] Haha
  15. [michiel] Nearly there!
  16. [michiel] Shame that my TPG mailbox has 360 messages in it :see_no_evil:

    [dean] 751 in your ARIA Working Groups folder, that might as well be a bounced reply ;)
  18. [michiel] Haha, yeah, well, it's hard to keep up with that.

  20. [michiel] (Select all + mark as read)
  21. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 14:54
    [garcialo] @michiel That key command is too complicated. I usually just use Del to mark as read.

    [mgifford] For Reddit folks, I’d love to have some accessibility questions about Drupal up on my AMA https://www.reddit.com/r/drupal/comments/4ziqn1/hi_i_am_mike_gifford_i_am_drupals_accessibility/?st=isaf8x9h&sh=3bd5afb5
  23. [mgifford] Or you can just ask me questions about my sweet whoodle puppy!

    @garcialo (sorry for the late reply), what actually is a good combination for Chrome then?
  25. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 15:18
    [garcialo] ChromeVox + Chrome
  26. [garcialo] It takes a little getting used to.

    [lectrotext] I was looking around for the latest on title attributes and anchor tags. Last thing I've seen is from 2014. Is it still pretty much useless for screen readers?
  31. James Nurthen
    @jnurthen
    Aug 25 19:35
    no - it can work pretty well for most screen readers. There is a lot of anti-title bias IMO.
  32. title is defined in the accessible description hierarchy for links
  33. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 19:36
    [michiel] Steve on the matter: If you want to hide content from mobile and tablet users as well as assistive tech users and keyboard only users, use the title attribute.
  34. mobile and tablet users sure.... keyboard users using IE on latest windows can get it now
  35. I wish other browsers would do that too
  36. [michiel] But that's not related to anchors per se.
  37. James Nurthen
    @jnurthen
    Aug 25 19:39
    yeah - totally unrelated
  38. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 19:40
    [michiel] I've been described as such
  39. James Nurthen

    i can find some random links to post too :)

    [michiel] Please do.
  41. James Nurthen
    @jnurthen
    Aug 25 19:41
    IMO title gets worse press than it deserves.... it is certainly not the best solution in all cases and is very overused but sometimes it is the right thing
  42. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 19:41
    [michiel] Can you tell me one scenario when it's the best solution?
  43. James Nurthen
    @jnurthen
    Aug 25 19:41
    in order to get an accessible description on something?
  44. the only alternative is aria-describedby.... if a developer doesn't require a description to be visible to everyone i'd rather they use title than a hidden aria-describedby just due to less code
  45. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 19:43
    [michiel] At least it would be consistent cross platform :P
  46. James Nurthen
    @jnurthen
    Aug 25 19:45
    note - i'm not arguing that title is a great thing - just that sometimes it is ok to have it.
  47. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 19:46
    [lectrotext] I appreciate the deep details, but I'm looking for a general guideline.
  48. [lectrotext] And asking in order to make sure that enough context is given for a link. The classic "Read more" link scenario
  49. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 19:54
    [michiel] In my opinion, links should not read “read more”.
  50. [michiel] Changing the link text is way easier.
  51. [michiel] Some blogs use something like “Continue reading ‘article title’” for example.

    Has anyone seen any documentation on <button> requiring role="button" to use aria-pressed?
  53. My co-worker swears he came across that today when looking at something and now can't find it
  54. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 20:40
    [michiel] Button has an implied role of button, so shouldn't be the case.
  55. that's the page he was referencing. I take it that was a weird version of the doc?
  56. And I was aware of the implied role for buttons so I found it odd
  57. James Nurthen
    @jnurthen
    Aug 25 20:44
    In ARIA 1.0 you needed to. In 1.1 you don't have to

    [garcialo] “i’m…arguing that title is a great thing” -@jnurthen
  59. powrsurg
    @powrsurg
    Aug 25 20:45
    What uses ARIA 1.0 vs 1.1?
  60. James Nurthen
    @jnurthen
    Aug 25 20:45
    @garcialo LOL

    [michiel] Link?
  63. [michiel] I'll retweet that one :P
  64. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 21:54
    [michiel] garcialo, just shorten it: “title [attribute] is a great thing”—@jnurthen
  65. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 22:01
    [cordelia] Alas, you’ll never get away with it. Last I checked, these Slack archives are public, so people can easily Google and see through your ruse.
  66. [michiel] We'll just have to make James say it for real then.
  67. [michiel] Say jnurthen, what was that thing about title attributes you didnt' say?
  68. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 22:34
    [garcialo] No people Google that sort of thing. The ruse would be airtight
  69. [lectrotext] Of course Read more is not ideally what the link should be. It was more of a shortcut to reference the problem.
  70. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 22:40
    [lectrotext] The actual problem is more complicated than that, but I'm looking for a rule of thumb to go by
  71. zakim-robot
    @zakim-robot
    Aug 25 23:24
    [caesar] The "read more" and "click here" thing was consigned to AAA status in WCAG 2.0 right?
  72. [caesar] Although in my experience there is a strong case for it to be AA
