[caesar] Quick question: does anybody have a view on the Apple launches, where they provide a set of flat images to Telcos and other resellers, and expect that they use those (and only those) to put on their own websites?
  2. [caesar] The only thing companies can do is to add really extensive alt text, and use image maps. But accessibility is otherwise extremely shocking.
  3. [caesar] I can't imagine that a company like Apple can / does this?

Hey room, I recently wrote a post on keyboard accessibility and the importance of focus indicator, you might find it interesting - https://sarbbottam.github.io/accessibility,/css/2016/09/29/keyboard-accessibility-and-lost-focus/

@cordelia @alice sorry was busy. Pretty sure it is the same the other way round too (edits in gitter not reflected to slack)

interesting question: reading the timing rules (2.2.1), we have a case where while none of the bullet points are directly addressed (the user themselves do receive warning but cannot directly extend the time limit), a user who needs more time can get the extension from their instructor. Would this roundabout way fulfill 2.2.1?

Anyone want to help me debug why my div col md 12 isn't appearing in mobile? The div appears on desktop but disappears when resizing. Newb to bootstrap. Its not my code but Im challenged with making it accessible. Maybe a clearfix thing? I can share the site in pm

[car] @stommepoes, I would guess that that's ok? As long as there's some way to do it. Does the site have a page documenting accessibility features? If so, might be a good place to mention that the instructor can extend the timing.

@StommePoes Yeah, it would sort of fit into the "real-time" bullet point IMO

@StommePoes My gut tells me that would be more of an accommodation than meeting the standard. But I haven't read that SC recently.

[garcialo] @StommePoes I looked into it and I agree @garcialo from this morning. Since none of the bullet points are met, it doesn’t pass the Success Criterion or doesn’t have an exception from the SC. Since the method for getting a time extension isn’t really part of the system as presented to the users (and maybe also since it requires a human), I would definitely call it an accommodation.
  12. [garcialo] and now I’m going to be wondering what qualifies as an accommodation while I’m having lunch with a friend

[techthomas] Is this still the best article to initiate new people to this slack channel? https://www.paciellogroup.com/blog/2015/07/anybody-can-be-an-a11y-slacker/ I’m trying to evangelize this awesome resource more :)

[shawn.henning] Is there a list of firms that certify WCAG 2.0 compliance? I know of a few, but I suspect I am missing some.

    [caesar] In which area?
  21. [caesar] (Geographically, I mean)
  22. [shawn.henning] US no specific area within the US jurisdiction

[caesar] OK I'm out (based in Australia) :) But I'm sure of the many folks here there would be no shortage who work for such firms (including the obvious majors).

    [shawn.henning] Thank you Caesar.
  25. [shawn.henning] If others want to DM me that is fine or just @ me. Trying to get a list together so when I am asked I have it handy as a TextExpander snippet ;)

[garcialo] @shawn.henning There are several consulting companies that do work like that in the US; Deque Systems, SSB Bart Group, The Paciello Group, WebAIM…there are others, but the ones that come to mind seem less about “WCAG Conformance” and more about UX
  27. [garcialo] …I’m probably missing some either that aren’t coming to mind or that I just don’t know about

    [shawn.henning] Thank you @garcialo
  29. [shawn.henning] The key ask is for "certification" of compliance to the standard. So the number may be small, but I want to be sure I ask so I do not leave anyone out.
