[rynpsc] Anyone have any advice on implementing a check all checkbox group i.e. x checkboxes where the first will select all of the others? Any potentiall pitfalls to be aware of?

[sophieschoice_slack] I created a github repository for developing a robots.txt and a .htaccess for blocking bad bots. If you are interested, you can help out: https://github.com/sophieschoice/robots.txt-htaccess-for-blocking-bad-bots/tree/master

[kivi] @innovati what about a physical solution? What if you applied a tinted film to your smartphone screen, would it make a difference?

[geekf] @rynpsc What you are asking seems like a tri-state checkbox. Check this out - https://www.w3.org/TR/wai-aria-practices-1.1/#checkbox

[jhetrick] @innovati neat idea, thanks for sharing this
  9. [jhetrick] @allenski @innovati I’m also seeing that on some other sites; I think it’s HTTPS sites with particular configurations (doesn’t occur on all HTTPS sites)

[hampelusken] Great thread on Twitter yesterday where people with disabilities wrote about what bothers them on the web. It was so great that I grouped and summarized the tweets in an article:

  12. [clairebones] Awesome @hampelusken - I was following that thread but an article will definitely be an easier resource for sharing with others :) thanks!

[pstonier] Does anyone have thoughts on using Natural Language Generation tools like Narrative Science’s Quill or Automated Insights as longdescriptions for charts? Better or worse than tabular information?

[karlgroves] @pstonier The biggest challenge with dataviz is for a user to gain the same immediate understanding of the chart that a non-disabled user gets by seeing the chart. While a data table affords the user with the ability to explore the data on their own, it doesn’t give that “at a glance” understanding. That said, the tabular data is still important to have.

I’ve never seen/ used Quill or Automated Insights, but it does seem as though the missing link is some mechanism of providing an interpretation of the data.

  15. [pstonier] Here’s a video that shows an example of Quill being used in a similar context. https://www.microstrategy.com/us/platform/whats-new#nlg

[pstonier] Yseop Savvy is another one that’s been integrating with many business intelligence systems
  17. [karlgroves] This is interesting stuff. There’s a tool called Weave that lets you manually set up automated captioning for charts and stuff, but there’s no concept within that tool that provides “Insights”. From an a11y perspective, I’d consider that the killer feature

[pstonier] Yeah, it’s pretty exciting to see a realistic approach to captioning dynamically generating dataviz.
