[marcysutton] I'm going to throw out another suggestion for the filters: you could send focus to the new content below after filtering, either to the first focusable item or a wrapping element with tabindex=-1 (debatable on what's best). Either of those would put users in a better spot to use the filtered results

has anyone here done the IAAP certifications? If so, what are your thoughts on them?

[tyronem] I just got mine. It’s a nice to have, but not essential, I think.

How did you study for it? Did you take any courses, or study on your own?

[tyronem] I studied for it by going through https://dequeuniversity.com/ and reading on my own. I went to CSUN this year and so I had a good 2 month or so cram session

[garcialo] There have been a few conversations on here about it. Several have written about it as well.
  7. [garcialo] Basically, opinions about it are quite mixed.

[coburnicus] I sat for the test last fall. If you have an employer who is willing to pay for it and the study prep (I did Deque too), it is a nice way to force yourself to learn the basics and some the policy/legal stuff.
  9. [coburnicus] I’m happy to see they are offering the Web Accessibility Specialist, something a bit more specialized.

[garcialo] I'm personally not a huge fan, but it's been appropriately pointed out that as someone that has been working in the industry I don't really need it. My main concern is that it becomes something people see as a requirement and I don't want a monetary barrier preventing people from getting into accessibility.
  11. [tink] +1
  12. [tink] It also has little credibility in the industry outside of a few organisations.

[tyronem] Like @coburnicus, studying for the test opened my eyes to some topics that I wouldn’t have known about or thought about beforehand. I’m so hyperfocused on the code side of accessibility. But I needed a wider view. It gives me a perspective that I can then give to others when they ask why color contrast is important, underlining links, why keyboard nav is necessary, etc. (My employer also paid for it, which was a nice perk.)
