[gokatgo] So excited to see Lighthouse integrated into Chrome 60's Dev Tools Audits panels… nice work by the Chrome and Deque teams!

[sarahebourne] @virtualalex The feds have recently updated Section 508, the regulations for federal agencies (and others receiving federal funding) and it now includes by reference WCAG2 AA for technical requirements (instead of making them up themselves.) So WCAG2 AA compliant is Section 508 compliant. The effort to set regulations for web accessibility under the ADA has been sidelined by the current administration, so there is currently no definition of web accessibility under the ADA. As @ugi mentioned, settlements for web-related ADA cases have uniformly required WCAG2 AA. While there are no guarantees (and I am not a lawyer) using WCAG2 AA should keep you free of any credible lawsuits.

The 508 update actually happened under Trump? I figured it would have been stalled.

    [virtualalex] heh
  6. [virtualalex] Is the standard color-indication of chrome (and other browsers) for highlight keyboard navigation good for color-accessbility?
  7. [virtualalex] is the light blue outline good enough?

I'd say that depends on your background/text color.

[virtualalex] let’s say white background and black text

Personally, I'd recommend rolling your own focus highlighting myself just for UX, but that's just me

[sarahebourne] The default focus indicator, a thin dotted line box, in Firefox and IE is pretty weak. It's just barely acceptable, but inadequate in many situations. Even more reason to deliberately design focus indication as part of the UX.

[johnbhartley] @powrsurg it was in the closing of the previous administration. Goes fully into effect Jan 2018 i believe.
  13. [johnbhartley] and still only truly applies to government-funded/publicly-funded entities

@powrsurg 508 was published in january before Trump took office.
  15. @powrsurg I've seen some cases where the created focus indicator is of sufficient contrast but isn't showing under high-resolution mode in windows.
