The group I know on Twitter hate MathML. The only thing they find accessible for anything more than simple Algebra is LaTeX.

[michiel] Like, general guidance on how to make one.
  17. [michiel] Say you need to educate someone that has never heard of them.
  18. [car] @robdodson You can try posting your question on the Blindmath mailing list. It's pretty active. http://www.nfbnet.org/mailman/listinfo/blindmath_nfbnet.org

[jiatyan] Thanks, @michiel . Didn't know that. I'm in education, so I guess I have more exposure to it. We come across a lot of awkward stuff in education. ;)

What does everyone think about the accessibility of the search feature here: http://www.shell.us/? We're looking at doing something very similar but in this particular implementation I wasn't able to see how this would work with screen readers since search is hidden by default and the search icon isn't indicating in any way that it is for search. Are there examples of where this is handled differently or better? Would role="search" plus offscreen rendering be a good approach?

[caesar] Why do you say "the search icon isn't indicating in any way that it is for search"? It has aria-label="Search" and aria-controls="Search-box"?
  25. [caesar] Or isn't that working in AT?
  26. [caesar] At a cursory glance it doesn't seem too bad. At least they've tried...? Hehe
  27. [caesar] It's better than this one: https://www.electranet.com.au/

Ah yes I totally missed that on the search icon. I was looking on the search box itself that appears after clicking the search icon

[cordelia] I kind of would like my focus to move directly into the search input box as soon as I press the search Link.
  30. [cordelia] saves an extra key press
  31. [cordelia] But otherwise I like their search. Really large and easy to find on the page.

good point. How does their approach compare to role="search" on the search form and offscreen rendering? And then for the icon itself aria-hidden="true"?
  33. so for screen readers it just is always there?

[caesar] Usually that kinda thing messes with keyboard-only operation
  35. [caesar] The offscreen elements receive focus and the cursor "disappears" from view temporarily
