1. EPUBCheck funding

Luc Audrain: we have 2/3 of the money
… we are still lacking $50,000
… we are launching individual emails to people who have not contributed
… with George we have tried to contact Apple through dsinger
… and we have answered dsinger’s questions

… and presented at the general assembly of federation of European publishers

George Kerscher: I’ve been in contact with Apple; Tzviya and Avneesh will see dsinger at AB meeting

Luc Audrain: we are pushing everywhere
… but no money so far
… none from France except HL

Liisa McCloy-Kelley: people don’t understand why they have to give money
… I’m hearing feedback that people aren’t quite sure why they are contributing since 4.2.2 is already out
… this next phase need to be more explained

Luc Audrain: have they read the web page?
… did they read the updated next page?

Liisa McCloy-Kelley: on Tuesday, Daihei let the Japanese publishers comment frankly in Japanese
… Daihei is working on it with Japanese publishers

Luc Audrain: is there some effort to communicate about this in every country

George Kerscher: the AAP ?
… they contribute to other services

Liisa McCloy-Kelley: the AAP may be able to reach for American publishers
… focused on copyright and legal issues
… not on standard and tech
… maybe the BISG

Luc Audrain: people have to know that to sell ebooks in Europe, the ebooks must be accessible
… how does this relate to epubcheck? An epub needs to be valid before it’s accessible

2. Update on EPUB/Publishing Survey

Liisa McCloy-Kelley: a very broad reach to people who use EPUB

George Kerscher: IBM distributes all their publications as EPUB, I will take an action item to try to find the right person at IBM to ask them to contribute to EPUBCheck. The person I will approach is Phil Jenkins.

Liisa McCloy-Kelley: need people understand changes in Europe impact broader than Europe
… doing this work collectively
… conversation show there are different ideas of a11y

Jeff Jaffe: EPUB3.2 do anything about A11Y?
… EPUB3.2 successor specification reference WCAG?
… strong statements with EPUB value

Dave Cramer: EPUB 3.2 does point to the EPUB a11Y document
… you could make an EPUB looking normal but totally unaccessible

George Kerscher: Rick Johnson Vital Source an EOPUB is more accessible by nature than a PDF
… expose metadata inside the EPUB along with a11y summary
… say screen reader friendly
… a publication can be produce without alt text, not accessible
… rigorous testing, presentation to XX to expose it cannot be accessible

George Kerscher: EPUB3 CG is developing as a note user experience display of metadata
… like Vital Source does
… promoting this in Higher Ed
… in the US more than Higher ed, but also libraries and k12
… promote this through Lib Congress
… making know though libraries, natural extension of the work of the CG

4. idpf web site

Ralph Swick: I will address that
… technical detail on the hosting
… virtual host service GoDaddy for years
… godaddy shut down the service in September
… some warning and I created a backup
… rehosted on a W3C machine
… working to create the virtual machine on W3C host
… that process much delayed
… apologies
… if the recreation service has issues still next week, a temporary solution
