Resolutions in 2026
- Publish all Threat Models created by the VCWG as NOTEs. The shortnames for the threat models should start with the unversioned shortname of the associated specification, and then "-threat-model", and then "-<VERSION>" (where VERSION is the version of the associated specification). The threat models should be published at the soonest reasonable publication date as determined by Editors, Chairs, W3C Staff, and Management. (Wed Sep 09 2026)
- The VCWG requests Horizontal Review for VC Rendering Methods, VC API for Lifecycle Management (VCALM), VC Barcodes, and VC Forgery Defense. (Wed Aug 12 2026)
- The VCWG requests the registration of protocol schemes listed in the IANA Considerations section, that is, interaction and web+interaction, of the Verifiable Credential API for Lifecycle Management (VCALM) specification via IANA. (Wed Aug 12 2026)
- We re-publish the existing Overview document unchanged but renamed version 1.0 (/TR/vc-overview-1.0). We will then adopt Ivan's draft as a FPWD of version 1.1 (/TR/vc-overview-1.1) (Wed Jul 22 2026)
- Create a new document, titled Verifiable Credential Forgery Defense 1.0, short name "vc-forgery-defense-1.0", and adopt this document in the group (under the VC Barcodes and Data Integrity task force). (Wed Jun 17 2026)
- The WG seeks to publish the vc-forgery-defense document as a FPWD as soon as it is ready, given that the substantial work is already done. (Wed Jun 17 2026)
- Publish the Quantum-Resistant Cryptosuites v1.0 specification (https://w3c.github.io/vc-di-quantum-resistant/) as a FPWD with a shortname of vc-di-quantum-resistant-1.0. (Wed May 27 2026)
- Publish the Recognized Entities specification (https://w3c.github.io/vc-recognized-entities/) as a FPWD with a short name of vc-recognized-entities with a target publication date of May 12th. (Wed Apr 29 2026)
- Adopt the Credentials Community Group Quantum Safe Data Integrity Cryptosuite specification ( https://w3c-ccg.github.io/di-quantum-safe/ ) as a Verifiable Credential Working Group Editors Draft. Transfer the specification to the W3C VCWG once all the appropriate IPR commitments have been made. (Wed Apr 15 2026)
- Adopt the Credentials Community Group Verifiable Credentials API Use Cases document ( https://w3c-ccg.github.io/vc-api-use-cases/ ) as a Verifiable Credential Working Group Editors Draft Note. Transfer the specification to the W3C VCWG once all the appropriate CCG processes are complete. (Wed Apr 15 2026)
- Publish the VC API for Lifecycle Management v1.0 specification (https://w3c.github.io/vcalm/) as a First Public Working Draft using 'vcalm-1.0' as the shortname. (Wed Apr 08 2026)
- Move the Verifiable Credential Barcodes v1.0 specification https://w3c.github.io/vc-barcodes/ to First Public Working Draft, with short name "vc-barcodes-1.0". (Wed Apr 08 2026)
- Publish the Verifiable Credential Data Integrity v1.1 specification (https://w3c.github.io/vc-data-integrity/), Data Integrity ECDSA Cryptosuites v1.1 (https://w3c.github.io/vc-di-ecdsa/), and Data Integrity EdDSA Cryptosuites v1.1 (https://w3c.github.io/vc-di-eddsa/) specifications as v1.1 First Public Working Drafts with short names "vc-data-integrity-1.1", "vc-di-ecdsa-1.1", and "vc-di-eddsa-1.1" respectively. - Publish a first public working draft of Verifiable Credentials Data Model 2.1 using the short name vc-data-model-2.1 (Wed Apr 01 2026)
- The WG would like to submit VCDM 2 (https://www.w3.org/TR/vc-data-model/) to the ISO PAS process. (Wed Mar 11 2026)
- Adopt all draft specifications listed in the New Normative Specifications section of the 2026 W3C VCWG Charter (https://w3c.github.io/vc-charter-2026/). Request that the Credentials Community Group publish Final Community Group Reports for each document. (Wed Mar 11 2026)
