Text appearance

Guideline

Users can read visually rendered text.

AGWG remains committed to providing Text Appearance guidance for multiple scripts and/or languages. To support our internationalization goals, AGWG is exploring ways to:

  • not require WCAG 3 to be republished when metrics are added for more scripts/languages,
  • make script/language-specific metrics normative,
  • meet the needs of different scripts and languages by allowing flexibility in which metrics are required and in their values, and
  • preserve backward compatibility.

We need help from people with expertise in non-Latin scripts and languages. For example, the Text Appearance guideline includes provisions on line height and spacing, and these provisions need to work for Latin-based and non-Latin-based scripts and languages.

We are updating the WCAG 3 wiki on evidence and research needed to include specific areas we need to work through to ensure that the Text Appearance provisions meet the needs of users with disabilities worldwide. If you are not using the default accessibility set, the conformance report should indicate what set is being used.
