Publishing Maintenance Working Group — Meeting Resolutions

Resolutions in 2026
- Once the liaison with SC34 is established, we will submit EPUB 3.4, EPUB Reading Systems 3.4, and EPUB Accessibility 1.2 as drafts for their review. (Thu May 07 2026)
- We will submit EPUB 3.4, EPUB Reading Systems 3.4, and EPUB Accessibility 1.2 to ISO as part of the PAS process when all documents reach recommendation status. (Thu May 07 2026)

- Publish the EPUB Annotations Use Cases document as a working group note, with the shortname epub-anno-ucr (Thu Feb 12 2026)
- We will add SMIL in images to EPUB 3,4 spec as at risk, and then move it to a note if it comes out of the final spec (Thu Feb 05 2026)
- Merge PR 2899, adding JXL support and information on EPUB version for core media types. (Thu Jan 29 2026)
- Republish EPUB 3.3 Core for an update to the fixed layout examples. (Thu Jan 08 2026)

- rendition:spread, rendition:flow, and rendition:orientation will be made obsolete in EPUB 3.4 at the package and spine level, in EPUBCheck they will use INFO messages. (Thu Dec 11 2025)
- Move the spread placement section into the pre-paginated section of the specification. (Thu Dec 11 2025)
- Make font obfuscation an obsolete but conforming EPUB feature in EPUB 3.4. (Thu Oct 09 2025)

- Change the version number of EPUB Accessibility and EPUB Accessibility Techniques 1.1.1 to 1.2, with new shortnames epub-a11y-12 and epub-a11y-tech-12, and the publication history listing 1.1.1 as the previous version. Publish a FPWD for both. (Thu Sep 18 2025)
- Deprecated features in EPUB 3.4 will be removed in future versions of the spec. (Thu Jun 26 2025)
